Free Tools to Protect Your Family and Their Privacy Online

Tue, 05/12/2026

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Parental controls can be a useful tool to manage your child's screen time and filter what they see. To help parents navigate these options, the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs (SCDCA) has launched new resources dedicated to parental controls and privacy settings. SCDCA is also offering a free webinar to walk parents through some common features so they can find the best fit for their family.

Visit consumer.sc.gov to view:

  • Parental Controls - Learn about the tools that can help you manage how your child uses their device, the content they see and who they can communicate with.
  • Data Privacy Settings - Every time you use a device, you create data. In many cases, you can control how you share that information.
  • Social Media Smarts - Spot the signs of a scam and learn how to protect yourself from those trying to gain access to your accounts.

On Wednesday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m., SCDCA is hosting a free webinar on parental controls where guardians can learn about available resources and tools.  Attendees will also hear tips on practical tips for talking to their children about building good online habits.
