The General Assembly has charged SCDCA with advising the Legislature and Governor on consumer issues and the state of credit in South Carolina. The Department is the administrator and enforcer of the law governing consumer credit transactions and also has responsibility over approximately fifteen industries. The investigative and legal enforcement activities of the Department are assigned to the Legal Division. The Division also provides consumer law guidance to the financial industry, magistrates, attorneys, and law enforcement agencies, just to name a few.
