Data Privacy Settings

Decorative image of a padlock with encryption data on the right side of the lockAll your online activity generates data. Your computer, phone, smart watch and even your car may be collecting information about you and how you use that device.  Some of that information (like a map using your location) may be useful to the service. Other times, companies collect data to build profiles on who we are, our online habits and demographic information.

In many cases, you can control how you share your data with a few simple steps. Every time you sign up for a new account, download an app, or get a new device, immediately go to the privacy/security settings. Set the limits on information sharing to what you’re most comfortable with.

Consider looking at the settings for the following:

  • Location permissions
  • Contacts
  • Ad personalization
  • Camera access
  • Microphone access

The list below can help you find the privacy settings for popular devices, apps and social media platforms.
