Data Privacy Settings

Decorative image of a padlock with encryption data on the right side of the lockEvery time you go online, you create a digital footprint. Your phone, computer, smart watch and even your car track details about you and how you use them.  Sometimes, this tracking is helpful. For example, a map app needs your physical location to give you accurate driving directions.  Other times, companies collect data to build a profile on you.

The good news is that you can usually control your data with a few simple steps. Whenever you create a new account, download an app, or get a new phone, open the privacy and security settings right away. From there, you can easily change the options to limit exactly what you share based on what makes you feel comfortable.

Consider looking at the settings for the following:

  • Location permissions
  • Contacts
  • Ad personalization
  • Camera access
  • Microphone access

The list below can help you find the privacy settings for popular devices, apps and social media platforms.
