"Ditch the Pitch: A Guide for Guarding Against Scams" is meant to help you get ahead of the fraudsters. Education is, and always has been, a large part of the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs' (DCA) mission. We understand navigating the ever-changing marketplace can be a daunting task. And with the rapid development of technology, scammers are more active (and more successful) than ever. It is with that fact in mind that DCA created this guide to avoiding scams.

Thank you for taking this step to arm yourself with the tips you need to spot and avoid scams. We encourage you to "beware and share" this information with your friends and family. You play an invaluable role in helping us warn more of our citizens about scammers. 

DCA has a limited number of printed brochures for order, for free!  A consumer wanting to spread the word, or businesses wishing to inform their customers, can request up to 50 brochures. If more are needed, please contact us.

DCA also invites you to come and play “Ditch the Pitch BINGO,” a fun and interactive presentation that teaches consumers how to avoid scams.

Each number called during the game has an educational tip on scams and how to protect your personal information. Some tips include how to apply a security freeze on your credit report, common red flags of scams and what cybersecurity tools are a must if you’re using digital devices.
